Sun Newspaper – 100% Review

Sun newspaper review of 100%

5 / 5. A remarkable project this, not least because of the eclectic collection of superbly crafted rock tunes within.

This is the end-product of Mr Wildheart’s record-breaking Pledge campaign, where fans paid up front for the three disc, 30 song album 555%.

His unique relationship with a die-hard fan base paid huge dividends, financially and artistically, inspiring some of the Geordie’s greatest work yet. Pledgers got to vote for their favourite tracks, which make up this single CD.

Armed with 100%, you won’t have heard the half of it but fear not – this is a perfect introduction to one of rock’s greatest songwriters.

News of the World

Not content with gatecrashing the charts, Ginger is now taking over your newspapers too! The story of the shoe-string fan-funded album outselling mainstream artists including Rihanna and Coldplay is being reported in the London Evening Standard, The Independent, The Huffington Post and many others.

The Evening Standard quotes record industry and rock music expert Dante Bonutto, who works for Universal offshoot Spinefarm:

Ginger has an enormous songwriting ability and is something of a maverick.

Since the early 1990s he always been someone who has followed an independent path, and insisted on doing things his own way.

It’s impressive he’s been able to get such a high chart placing in the midweek when you consider the competition he has been going up against and the way his album was made.

“Whether the album stays there at the end of the week we’ll have to see.

However, it just shows how effective social media can be and the financing model Ginger has used in cutting out the middle man could be key for many artists like him.

New Album “100%” Storms To No. 9 in the Midweek Album Charts

Ginger Wildheart is celebrating the most successful chart position of his career this week, with his new album 100%, which debuted in the UK midweek charts today at Number 9.

The album was made using the international direct-to-fan music company PledgeMusic and generated nearly £200,000 through pre-orders.

A 30 track triple album (entitled 555%) was initially available exclusively to pledgers to preorder as a digital download, a 3 CD set or deluxe triple gatefold package. The fans then had the opportunity to vote for their favourite tracks, making up the single-disk commercial release, 100% which was released on Monday 25th June on both physical and digital versions.

Other offerings available in the PledgeMusic campaign included a chance for fans to get themselves added to the albums liner notes and an exclusive DVD, which details the making of the record and includes never-before-seen, on-the-road footage.

Released on Monday the independent album has shocked the music industry by debuting at number 9 in the midweek charts.

Ginger commented

This chart entry marks a historic change in the way that bands and artists can release music direct to their fans, afford quality production values and actually make a living too. For too many years labels have been using musicians as fodder for developing their own marketing techniques, usually at the expense of the players themselves.

Musicians deserve to be paid like everyone else, and the only people who truly realise this, apart from the musicians themselves, are the fans. They want us to keep making music. This model means we all get to win. If you have a modest fan base you no longer have to consider quitting a business so obsessed with youth and photogenicity and get down to the task at hand, working hard, making great music and cultivating a great relationship with your supporters. The future of music is in the hands of the people and is finally the responsibility of the musicians. It’s the most exciting time in decades, many musicians have earned this freedom.

The music industry is dead, long live the music.

Malcolm Dunbar, managing director of PledgeMusic said:

Ginger Wildheart is an artist who has always enjoyed a special relationship with his fans. They have demonstrated their continued loyalty to him by backing the campaign to the extent they have.

100% is a fantastic album and has real fan momentum behind it, which is a great endorsement of how PledgeMusic is able to empower artists.

The dedicated folks in the warehouse have been making up packages all day and all of the Vinyl and Triple CDs (both signed and non signed) will be dispatched tomorrow morning (Friday 22nd June)!

This means that the albums should be with you to coincide with the commercial album 100% hitting the shelves (and online stores worldwide) this coming Monday 25th June.

Updated Delivery Schedule of 555% & Release date of 100%

Hi Guys,

I finally have some more information to give you regarding the delivery of the Triple CD & Triple Vinyl.

We have recently been at the mercy of various factories, as they manufacture the Triple CD hardback book and Triple (coloured) Vinyl. The packaging on those is of a “bespoke” nature so the turnaround has taken far longer than if we had just made regular jewel case CDs.

This process is finally coming to an end and we have been informed by the manufacturers today that we should now have all of the stock on CD and Vinyl delivered by the second week of June. They should then be with you around the third week of June as we don’t anticipate any further delays.

Apologies once again for the hold up. The packaging looks amazing and I can’t wait until you have them in your hands.

Remember that all 30 tracks are available digitally NOW in the updates section of PledgeMusic if you haven’t heard them already.

100% Official Release Date:

Due to the delays on the triple album, we felt it was only right to push the official release date of the single disc album 100% in the UK, Europe and USA back 2 weeks to June 25th to coincide with everyone receiving their triple albums.

Thanks again for your patience and should you have any questions feel free to ask (direct contact info below).
